The Catholic Church has dismissed reports of the death of Cardinal Emmanuel Wamala, the former Archbishop of Kampala.
Claims that Cardinal Wamala, aged 95, had passed on spread on social media on February 01.
But these have been dismissed by several officials close to the retired servant of God.
Rev Phillip Oddi, the Spokesperson of the Uganda Episcopal Conference; and Fr Pius Male Ssentumbwe, the Chancellor of the Kampala Archdiocese, have both been quoted as dismissing the reports of Cardinal Wamala’s death.
They insisted they didn’t know the person behind the ‘fake news’ on the purported demise of Wamala, and what the intentions of those spreading this information were.
ABOUT CARDINAL WAMALA
Born on December 15, 1926 at in the Diocese of Masaka, Wamala was ordained priest in December 1957.
In July 1981, the pope appointed Wamala Bishop of Kiyinda-Mityana.
In February 1990, he replaced Cardinal Emmanuel Nsubuga as Archbishop of Kampala.
