Veteran journalist Andrew Mujuni Mwenda is happy that singer Sheebah Karungi has finally recorded a statement with detectives at Uganda Police Force’s CID over claims that a powerful and respected ‘role model’ had attempted to rape her.
With some netizens alleging that Mwenda was the man that Sheebah had declined to name when she first came out to reveal the attempted rape incident, The Independent magazine owner came out to demand that the singer should reveal the name of the man who wanted to force himself on her so that social media could stop crucifying him.
“If Sheeba was either raped or molested or violated in any way, the offender should he apprehended by police, taken to courts of law to face justice. She therefore has a duty to reveal this offender to the authorities so that justice can be served,” wrote Mwenda last week.
“I have come to the conclusion that the ambiguity in her video is not innocent. I am told she is a popular musician. Why does she let a man who raped her go scot-free and at the same time sit back as social media lynch an innocent person? Not that I really care about what people on social media say about me.”
After reports that Sheebah had gone to Police CID and made it clear that Mwenda was not the man who wanted to rape her, the veteran journalist is clearly relieved. “The truth always comes out. Sad that this has taken long but better late than never,” said Mwenda.
On May 17, Police spokesperson Fred Enanga confirmed that Sheebah had recorded a statement at CID, making it clear that Andrew Mwenda has never tried to force himself on her, and revealing the man who attempted to rape her. (Read Story Here).
