Byabakama’s EC finally publishes 2021 presidential election results; Museveni garners over six million votes

Almost two weeks since it declared incumbent Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni winner of the January 14 presidential poll, the Electoral Commission (EC) has published official results.

Results released on January 16, the basis of which Museveni was declared winner, didn’t include returns from some polling stations.

The EC tally as of January 16 was 5,851,037 votes (58.64 per cent) for Museveni of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM).

Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine of National Unity Platform (NUP) had 3,475, 398 (34.83 per cent).

But after adding results from about 1,200 polling stations that were remaining, Museveni gained 191,861 more votes to increase his final tally to 6,042, 898 votes (58.38 per cent).

Bobi Wine got 156,039 more votes to increase his total to 3,631, 437 (35.08 per cent).

But the final tally doesn’t include results from 83 polling stations (54, 357 registered voters).

The EC cancelled these over several electoral malpractice forms, including ballot stuffing, missing declaration of results forms, and ghost voters.
