Busoga Kingdom Prime Minister Katuukiro Dr Joseph Muvawala has broken the silence on a decision by a section of chiefs to sack William Wilberforce Nadiope Gabula IV.
A section of members of the council of chiefs issued a declaration firing Kyabazing Nadiope Gabula. (Read story here).
But now, Katukiro Muvawala has issued another statement punching holes in the public notice and declaration dated January 03.
Muvawala told the Basoga to ignore the declaration, saying it was illegal and that Gabula remained the recognized king of Busoga.
“As Obwa Kyabazinga Bwa Busoga we implore the general public, our partners, friends of Busoga and all peace loving Ugandans to disregard the said Notice and treat it with the contempt it deserves. The purported dismissal and or election of a new Kyabazinga is false, illegal, misleading and intended at creating confusion and disunity in the Kingdom which all peace loving Basoga and Ugandans should shun and condemn,” he said in a statement issued on January 14.
“HRH William Wilberforce Nadiope Gabula IV, the legitimate Isebantu Kyabazinga of Busoga Kingdom as duly elected on the 24th August 2014, enthroned on the 13th September 2014 and duly Gazetted by the government of Uganda on the 24th June 2019 under General Notice No. 649 of 2019 is firmly in office and performing his functions as enshrined under the Obwa Kyabazinga Bwa Busoga Constitution and the relevant national laws.”
He also reminded the chiefs that the Kyabazinga will rule until his death, further vowing to defeat the new scheme to remove Gabula.
“The Kyabazinga once elected under the Constitution of Busoga and our culture reigns till death and the organs of the Obwa Kyabazinga to it; the Busoga Lukiiko, the Cabinet, Clans Council, Abambedha Council, Chief Royal Council among others are duly performing their mandate and there should be no cause for alarm,” said Muvawala.
“Finally, the Obwa Kyabazinga re-assures the general public that these temporary developments just like several others before shall be dealt with and managed and encourages everyone to remain calm and observe law and order.”
He equally praised Museveni’s government and noted that under Gabula, the kingdom had made progress which should not be disrupted by such power struggles.
“The Kingdom has in the past seven years since enthronement of HRH the Isebantu Kyabazinga registered tremendous success in areas of cultural promotion, unity, education, health, strategic partnerships among others and these it will continue to build on for the social, cultural and economic benefit of our people. We thank the Government of Uganda, people of Busoga and our partners that have been strong pillars in these efforts.”
