Brenda Nantongo: Disappointed by men, took a bullet for father Katumba Wamala weeks to her wedding

Gen Edward Katumba Wamala’s daughter Brenda Nantongo was laid to rest at Kikandwa, Kasawo Town Councilouncil, Mukono District on June 03.

Nantongo died on spot during a June 01 morning assassination attempt against her father Gen Katumba, an outgoing works and transport minister, former army commander and ex-police chief.

Assailants had sprayed the general’s vehicle registration number H4DF 2138 as it moved along Kisota Road in Bukoto-Kisaasi.

In his speeches since the shooting, Gen Katumba Wamala has suggested her daughter might have taken bullets for her.

At her vigil in Najjera on June 02, the family revealed Nantongo would be buried in a wedding gown.

“She has been disappointed by many men. She was ready to wed and settle down. She was planning a small wedding,” said Catherine Wamala, her mother, during the burial ceremony in Kikandwa.

Having recently returned from her studies abroad, Nantongo had taken up a job at an NGO at the close of 2020.

She was ready to settle down with a man of her dreams.

Aged 27, Katumba Wamala’s fourth born child Nantongo had returned to Kampala with a Master’s degree in Public Health from the Savannah Atlanta University in the US.

It is at this same institution where she had earned her undergraduate degree in Public Health.

Her earlier education was at Green Hill Academy, and later Nabisunsa Girls School.
