BREAKING: Ugandan Opposition MPs Walk Out of Parliament over Illegal Detention, Torture of Missing Suspects

Leader of Opposition in Parliament (LoP) Mathias Mpuuga has February 03 afternoon led opposition MPs in walking out of the House over the plight of missing Ugandans.

Mpuuga and his colleagues were protesting detention without trial and torture of Ugandans, including political activists.

The LoP had earlier asked deputy speaker Anita Among to suspend plenary sittings until such a time when government has released the detainees.

But Among asked Mpuuga, also the Nyendo-Mukungwe MP, to be patient until Tuesday, February 08 when government will be required to present a statement on the matter.

The deputy speaker said: “We have the issue of the fuel crisis to handle today. I seek your indulgence that we handle the matter of missing persons next week.”

However, Mpuuga insisted on rallying the opposition to walk out.

“As a leader to whom people come everyday about the condition of their relatives who have been tortured and some of them have not been seen,” he said.

“This matter is not partisan; let us consider it as an affront on our civility.”
