The Central Executive Committee (CEC) of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) has endorsed deputy speaker Anita Among as its candidate for the speakership.
“RT HON ANITA AMONG approved by CEC to be the next speaker of parliament of Uganda,” wrote Mike Mukula, the NRM Vice Chairman for Eastern Uganda.
CEC will now present Among’s name to the parliamentary caucus for approval and support on March 24.
On March 22, a total of 13 NRM MPs expressed interest in the position of speaker. (Read Story Here).
Some of these were ministers, which left some people wondering if the ministers were unhappy in Museveni’s cabinet. (Read Story Here).
On March 23 morning, The Pearl Times reported that Minister Aceng had withdrawn out of the race for speaker. (Read Story Here).
Aceng has since explained why she withdrew from the race.
