The Cyclists are accusing traffic wardens of causing death to their colleague Moses Kafeero, who died on Tuesday evening while fighting with a traffic warden.

Kafeero was knocked dead by Motor vehicle registration number UBD 341X along the Mbarara Kabale highway around the Independence Park.

It is alleged that Umar Ssenoga, alias Kyabura, a city council traffic warden, was struggling with the deceased in order to take his motorcycle registration number UEY 980P Bajaj Boxer, red in color.

In the process, as the deceased was trying to get away from the traffic warden, he fell into the road and was run over by a motor vehicle that sped off.

On October 21, Police engaged in running battles with boda boda riders before they proceeded to bury their fellow cyclist.

Immediately the burial ended, the Boda Boda riders stormed the offices of the city council but all offices were closed.

The Chairperson of the Mbarara City Boda Boda Association, Sadiuos Owukunda, said traffic wardens have failed their role of manning traffic flow and resorted to arresting and soliciting money from cyclists.

“They are supposed to see that we do not have traffic jam in town, keep order on our roads but they have started arresting us because they want money,” said Owukunda.

The Chairperson of the Nyamitanga Boda boda stage, Edward Bahati, accused police of failing to train traffic wardens on the traffic rules.

“We have held many meetings with all responsible offices but no action has been taken. When traffic wardens arrest us, they charge us between Shs50,000 and Shs100,000 or pay Shs400,000 at police,” claimed Bahati.
