Bobi Wine’s bulletproof car released on Museveni’s orders; NUP leader blasts URA, President’s

National Unity Platform (NUP) leader Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine has castigated President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni for ordering tax collector Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) to release his car.

URA had recalled Bobi Wine’s car over alleged undervaluation of the taxes he was supposed to pay for the vehicle.

But Bobi Wine said the decision by Museveni to give orders to URA was an indication that he “continues to misrule our nation and to treat it as his personal property.”

“He has turned himself into the law. He ordered for the impounding of the vehicle without regard to the law, and has now ordered for its release without making reference to the law,” continued Bobi Wine.

“We must struggle to build a country which works. If indeed I owe any taxes, Gen. Museveni should have no right to order for the release of my vehicle before I pay the taxes!”

He urged “URA and indeed all government institutions” to strive to “be independent and not operate on the wishes and whims of anyone.”

The politician revealed his team was “subjecting it [the vehicle] to further scrutiny and inspection before we use it.”
