Vocal media owner and political analyst Andrew Mwenda says National Unity Platform (NUP) leader Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine is determined to remove President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni as much as the incumbent is focused on keeping power.
When Bobi Wine rose to political prominence in 2017, Mwenda dismissed his potential to remove Museveni.
Mwenda would later register as a member of NUP, and threaten to challenge Bobi Wine for the party’s presidential ticket in the 2021 election.

Bobi would later win 35 per cent of the just over 10 million votes cast in the January 14 poll.
Bobi Wine’s NUP also won just over 60 parliamentary seats, replacing Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) as the main opposition political party.
Now, although he still believes Bobi Wine has issues running his party and leading the opposition, Mwenda has accepted the singer-turned-politician is determined to end Museveni’s rule.
“I think politics looks horrible at the moment. Uganda is dangerously polarised. We have two main groups in the political contest,” Mwenda said during an April 21 morning TV show.
“NRM is determined to cling to power at any cost. Then, we have the radical extremist wing of the opposition led by Bobi Wine’s people power. These are determined to bring down the government at any cost.”
Mwenda believes that if Bobi Wine can unite other opposition parties behind him and hone his skills in negotiation to help him make key compromises, then he could have a chance at replacing Museveni.
“Museveni has better control of his base than Bobi Wine. Bobi Wine will say things just to please his base even though he doesn’t believe in them,” continued Mwenda.
“The leaders of the opposition are held hostage by their base. NRM, even though it has a determination to cling to power, is not a radical extremist. They can be talked to.”
