Bobi Wine to Museveni: Baganda Aren’t Tribalistic; That’s Why They Supported Your NRA War

National Unity Platform (NUP) Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine has told Museveni that it is wrong for him to accuse Baganda of tribalism.

Bobi Wine, a Muganda by tribe, garnered most of the votes in the Buganda region in the January 2021 presidential election.

But President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni and his ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) argued that they had lost the Buganda vote due to sectarianism and vote rigging orchestrated by NUP.

But speaking recently in Mityana District during the claimed Bobi Wine during the burial of Yusuf Mutyaba, grandfather to Sheriff Najja, the NUP deputy secretary for research, and Wakiso District Speaker, Bobi Wine castigated Museveni for suggesting that the Baganda were sectarian and tribalistic when they rejected him and the NRM.

The NUP leader reminded the NRM boss that the Baganda would not have supported his five-year guerrilla war.

Bobi Wine argued that the same Baganda Museveni accused of voting on sectarian and tribal grounds were the same that hosted and hid him as well as his fellow rebels.

He also reminded the president that while in the jungles of Luweero, it was the same Baganda he now castigates that clothed and fed him.

After losing the 1980 presidential election, Museveni of the Uganda Patriotic Movement (UPM) waged a war against the Apollo Milton Obote II regime.

In 1986, Museveni and his National Resistance Army (NRA) took over Government. Now aged 77, Museveni has ruled Uganda for 36 years. In 2021, he beat Bobi Wine in a presidential election to win another five-year term that ends in 2026.
