National Unity Platform (NUP) leader Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine has opened up on a statement in which he was quoted as rebuking Buganda king Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II for holding a meeting with President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni.
Bobi Wine is a Muganda politician, who got most of his votes from his home region of Buganda in the 2021 presidential election.
And when the Kabaka met his political opponent Museveni recently to discuss the mailo land system controversy, return of Buganda properties and Federo, a post attributed to Bobi Wine appeared online attacking the king.
“Ssabassaja it hurts me to say, but by meeting with the dictator you have betrayed us as your subjects and those oppressed by the same person,” read the social media post in part.
“You have chosen the oppressor over your subjects in the struggle. History will judge you accordingly.”
But the singer-turned-politician has since distanced himself from the post and flagged it fake news.
“My attention has been drawn to this fake tweet, purportedly from my account. Please disregard it and treat it with the contempt it deserves,” he wrote.
“The regime has intensified its propaganda based on lies. Let us intensify our struggle for freedom based on the truth of our cause.”
