Bobi Wine Salutes Mbarara Referral Hospital Doctors, Speaks on His Deputy Jolly Mugisha’s Health Condition

National Unity Platform (NUP) leader Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu aka Bobi Wine has saluted health workers at the Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital for their services after they worked hard to stabilize Jolly Mugisha, the opposition party’s deputy president for western Uganda.

Mugisha is currently receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital, according to both Bobi Wine.

Her relatives rushed her to the regional referral hospital in critical condition on Monday, August 26. Two days later, on August 28, Bobi Wine was in Mbarara City to check on his deputy.

Bobi Wine and NUP leaders, including party secretary general David Lewis Rubongoya, visited Mugisha at the Mbarara-City based hospital serving patients referred from facilities in districts and sub-regions of Western Uganda as well as the country’s neighbors.

The hospital faces human resource and infrastructural challenges. Many times, health workers are overwhelmed and wards overcrowded. Yet amidst such challenges, Kagure further told The Pearl Times, “the hospital has continued to offer better quality services as indeed even Bobi Wine, a fierce critic of Museveni’s government, has confirmed.”

“Thankfully, the doctors have worked very hard to stabilize her condition and we are very delighted to see her make great improvement,” Bobi Wine said of the health workers and Mugisha’s condition after the visit.

Some on social media urged Bobi Wine and others in the opposition to keep giving credit to Museveni’s government where it is due when highlighting challenges.

“It’s heartening to see that Hon. Jolly Mugisha is receiving excellent care at Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital, and we continue to pray for her full recovery. This is a testament to the efforts of H.E Yoweri Museveni and the NRM government in establishing and improving regional referral hospitals across the country. Indeed the regional referral hospitals including that of Kayunga where I come from have been instrumental in offering good health services,” wrote Umar Mitala.

“It’s true we still have challenges in the medical sector but however we should be appreciative for some positive strides in the health sector. The dedication of the doctors and health workers in Mbarara reflects the positive strides we have made in the health sector. While it is easy to criticize, it is important to recognize and appreciate the tangible progress made by the government. Despite the challenges, the NRM government continues to prioritize healthcare, ensuring that facilities like Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital are equipped to save lives.”

Others quickly noted that the ICU where Mugisha was being treated was expensive for many Ugandans since it belonged to the private wing, and that people without means like hers would not have access.
