National Unity Platform (NUP) leader Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine has castigated President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni for reportedly turning Uganda into a laughing stock.
Reacting to a July 12 incident where a Uganda Airlines plane ran out of fuel at the Julius Nyerere International Airport, Dar es Salaam in Tanzania.
This forced passengers to wait until it refuelled.
Uganda Airlines has since apologized for delaying travellers.
“Allow us to apologise for the prolonged delay at Julius Nyerere International Airport, Dar es Salaam that occurred yesterday 12 July on our flight UR 321. Our service was affected by a mix-up in delayed fuel delivery to the Aircraft caused by our supplier in Dar es Salaam,” read a statement from the national carrier.
“We have taken up the matter with them [supplier] to ensure a repeat of the same does not occur.”
According to Bobi Wine, the delay shows that Museveni has brought embarrassment to Uganda.
“Dictatorship leads to corruption. Corruption leads to dysfunction. Dysfunction leads to embarrassment,” noted Bobi Wine.
“This is what we mean when we say Dictator Museveni has reduced our country into a laughing stock among nations.”
Uganda Airlines has in recent months been on the spot over corruption, and mismanagement, with top officials, including CEO Cornwell Muleya, suspended.
