National Unity Platform (NUP) leader Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu aka Bobi Wine has not relented in his efforts to shake Ugandan president Gen Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni’s tables ever since the head of state and government elevated his son of 48 years to the rank of general, the top-most in the Ugandan army, the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF).
Two years shy of 50 years, Gen Muhoozi is one of the youngest generals in Uganda and one of the few to have reached that rank among his peers that were not part of his father’s five-year National Resistance Army (NRA) bush war.
Bobi Wine was particularly disturbed that Museveni, who has ruled Uganda for nearly four decades, found it unproblematic to promote his son to the highest rank in the UPDF only hours after Muhoozi almost caused a diplomatic crisis between Kampala and Nairobi due to his reckless tweets about the ability of his army to capture the Kenyan capital within two weeks.
While the first son was relieved of his duties as the Commander of the UPDF Land Forces and replaced by now Lt Gen Kayanja Muhanga, the promotion of a first son who had freshly whipped up a Twitter storm was difficult to mask, and it has shone through like a sin so ugly.
Bobi Wine now thinks that Gen Museveni treats Uganda like his bar where he can promote his son Muhoozi to the level of General Manager, allowing him to drink beyond his fill and to reach the extent of chewing the beer bottles.
This is what Bobi Wine precisely suggested when one of his NUP diehard social media bloggers, sports presenter and President of the Uganda Sports Press Association Patrick Kanyomozi joked that Gen Museveni could soon create a new UPDF rank called General Manager for his son.
“When he has exhausted all the ranks, they will create a new one called General Manager for him,” wrote Kanyomozi. [Original statement: Rank bwezinagwayo bagenda kumukolelayo empya eya General Manager].
In response, Bobi Wine said: “My brother, these guys have turned our country into their bar. Now that they have given this guy the rank of ‘General Manager,’ he will drink the beer in large quantities and even eat the bottles.” [Original statement: Muganda wange bwoleka?,bano abasajja ensi yaffe baajifuula bbaala yabwe. Kati ono kebamuwadde obwa ‘General Manager ‘, agenda kugunywa n’eccupa azimekete].”
Bobi Wine has previously warned Ugandans: ‘Museveni will be our president if we do not stop this madness.’ (Read Story Here).
Gen Muhoozi has also made it clear that he and his ‘army’ will not allow Bobi Wine (kaBobi) to become Uganda’s President. (Read Story Here).
