National Unity Platform (NUP) leader Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine has spoken out on the appointment of President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni’s son lt Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba as Commander Land Forces (CLF), suggesting it now looked clear the first son was being prepared to seize power from his father.
On June 24, Gen Museveni appointed first son Lt Gen Kainerugaba the CLF, replacing Lt Gen Peter Elwelu who will now deputise Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Gen Wilson Mbasu Mbadi.
Bobi Wine says Kainerugaba’s elevation was “expected.”
Bobi Wine also argues that the first son’s promotion supports the Muhoozi Project claims.
“Muhoozi’s appointment is consistent with reports that he is being groomed to seize power once Museveni’s reign ends, similar to what dictators elsewhere on the African continent including Gaddafi-era Libya, Equatorial Guinea, Chad and Bashir-era Sudan attempted to do but with little success,” said Bobi Wine.
Bobi Wine further suggested Museveni was rewarding his son for allegedly persecuting the political opposition.
“You may recall how Muhoozi promised to ‘beat very badly’ his father’s opponents in the 2021 elections,” continued the NUP leader.
Bobi Wine believes Kainerugaba was behind most of the arrests of NUP supporters, most of whom were missing for several weeks.
