National Unity Platform (NUP) presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine says security agencies have raided his home in Magere, Wakiso District, and arrested his guards.

Uganda is going to the polls on January 14.

Bobi Wine is one of the 10 candidates challenging 76-year-old Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni who has ruled the country since 1986.

The campaigns for the polls have been characterized by arrests and confrontations with security agencies.

For example, Patrick Oboi Amuriat (POA), the candidate for the main opposition Forum for Democractic Change (FDC) have been arrested tens of times, produced in court and detained on other occassions.

He faces several charges in courts across the country.

For Bobi Wine, some of his supporters have been detained.

“The army has this morning raided my home, arrested all my security guards and anyone they could see around my premises. No reason for the arrest was given,” claimed Bobi Wine on January 12.

Bobi Wine also claimed Davie Selector Lule Bwanika, one of his personal assistants had also been arrested.

That security agencies had raided his home “broken into and he was violently arrested by the army and driven to an unknown destination.”
