Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu aka Bobi Wine, the president of the main opposition National Unity Platform (NUP) has updated party members on the health condition of the political organization’s head of legal department Counsel Anthony Wameli.
Wameli was flown out of Uganda in September 2021 for treatment over a condition said to have been cancer.
For many months, he was treated at Boston Medical Center in Massachusetts, United States of America.
Bobi Wine, the NUP top boss, recently met Counsel Wameli in the US.
Noting that Ugandan doctors failed to diagnose Wameli’s sickness and suggesting that the situation would have been worse had the lawyer not been flown out of Uganda to a better hospital in the US, Bobi Wine delivered good news to the NUP supporters and all Ugandans on the health condition of the celebrated lawyer.
Bobi Wine noted that Wameli was steadily improving following treatment in the US. This means that the lawyer could return to Uganda in coming months if he continues responding well to treatment being offered by doctors in America.
“Interacted with Counsel Wameli Anthony on the sidelines of our diaspora conference in California, USA. Counsel Wameli heads our Legal Department. He’s spent 1 year+ in the U.S. getting treated for a condition doctors in Uganda were unable to discover until he was flown out,” reported Bobi Wine.
“I am encouraged to see him steadily regaining his health. We wish you a full and quicker recovery, my brother.”
When reports of Wameli’s sickness came up, some people claimed that he was poisoned.
Reports of poisoning of politicians in the opposition and government are not new.
Some time ago, former spy chief Gen David Tinyefuuza (later Sejusa) spoke about reports of fear of being poisoned in cabinet meetings. (Read Story Here).
