National Unity Platform (NUP) leader Robert Kyagulanyi has accused President Museveni and his government of persecuting his party members following the arrest of five of his mobilizers on grounds that they were plotting to overthrow the NRM government.
On November 02, security operatives arrested five NUP members from Kamaiba Ward in Kasese Municipality.
Those arrested are Bryan Basisa, the NUP Kasese District Chairperson; Geoffrey Bwambale, the NUP coordinator for Bundibugyo; Atanazio Isanat, party member from Ntoroko District; Isaac Mumbere, former NUP flagbearer for Nyamwamba Division in Kasese; as well as Oniz Kule, a boda boda rider from Hima Town.
Police in Kasese claims the five were found in possession of documents calling on Ugandans to engage in an uprising.
They face charges of attempting to overthrow a legitimate government.
Speaking on the arrest of the five members of NUP, Bobi Wine said they were doing party work.
He added that the five were “found at a home of one of them doing legitimate party work!”
