National Unity Platform (NUP) leader Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine has flown out of Uganda, appointing Manjiya MP John Baptist Nambeshe as acting president for three weeks.
Nambeshe is the opposition chief whip in Parliament.
A June 20 statement from Bobi Wine’s secretary Sarah Muwonge informed Nambeshe, also chief opposition whip in Parliament, he would be in charge of the main opposition party from June 20 to July 10.
“This is to inform you that the party president Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu has asked me to notify you that he has designated you as the acting party president for three weeks from June 20 to July 10, 2021 while he is out of the country on official duties,” wrote Muwonge to Nambeshe, also NUP vice president for eastern Uganda.
Muwonge copied the letter to all vice presidents, secretary general Lewis Rubongoya and National Executive Committee (NEC) members.
The singer-turned-politician is expected to meet allies in the West and make international media appearances during his international tour.
