Bob Kasango burial postponed until further notice after stormy meeting mediated by Andrew Mwenda, Fox Odoi

The family of fallen lawyer Bob Kasango has postponed his burial until further notice after relatives failed to agree on where to lay him to rest.

All Saints Church in Nakasero, Kampala, was a scene of dramatic events on March 02 as two families fought over the body of Kasango.

Kasango, who relatives revealed was born Okello but named Kasango after his dead uncle, passed on in Luzira Prison at the weekend.

The requiem mass was followed by a fight for the body between the family of the fallen lawyer and that of his wife.

A Japadhola, Kasango had married Nice Bitarabeho, a Mutooro.

Bitarabeho and her family had expected to drive the body using an A-Plus Funeral Service van but the lawyer’s family members managed to carry the body to a truck before driving off.

Whereas Bitarabeho had hoped to bury Kasango at her ancestral home in Fort Portal city where Kasango had a home, the lawyer’s family objected to this.

Police would later intercept the vehicle carrying the body, and detain it until the families have agreed on where to bury the lawyer.

On March 03, journalist Andrew Mwenda and West Budama MP Fox Odoi attempted to mediate between the Tooro and Tororo families, respectively.

Journalist Mwenda said the meeting involved Kasango’s relatives, friends and in laws and was meant “to resolve the impasse of where his body will be buried.”

“These discussions continue. We agreed to postpone the burial to a future date until we find a common agreement,” added Mwenda.

“We adjourned the meeting to allow further consultations by all concerned. The next meeting will be tomorrow [March 04] where we hope to forge an agreement. All inconveniences caused friends, in laws, relatives and well wishers are regretted. Date and place of burial will be announced soon.”
