Uganda’s army, the UPDF, says it has killed 309 suspected Karamojong warriors and rustlers in the past eight months.
According to UPDF spokesperson Brig Gen Felix Kulayigye, “the situation in Karamoja is under control” and that it has not deteriorated as reported.
On March 21, suspected Turkana criminals, who reportedly entered Uganda in search of pastures, killed three geologists from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development and two UPDF personnel in Moroto district.
This prompted the Ugandan army to intensify operations against the suspected Karamojong rustlers.
