Norbert Mao, the Democratic Party (DP) President General and Justice and Constitutional Affairs Minister designate, is expected to address reporters at City House in Kampala on July 26, about five days since President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni announced the appointment.
Mao’s appointment came only hours after a meeting with Museveni at State House Entebbe where a cooperation agreement was signed. The DP leader and former presidential candidate has already been vetted and his appointment approved by Parliament’s Appointments Committee.
Mao is expected to continue to defending his recent recent actions, further explain the details and contents of the cooperation agreement between the Democratic Party and President Museveni’s ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) as well as address calls on him to resign the opposition party’s top leadership position if he wants to go and serve as a minister in Gen Museveni’s government.
But some expect Mao to announce his resignation from the DP presidency, a declaration that seems unlikely given the politician’s recent statements.
Ahead of his first DP press conference since his appointment as Justice and Constitutional Affairs Minister, on Tuesday, Mao said the truth would come out. “When all is said and done, the Truth will outshine lies and misinformation,” wrote the DP boss.
It should be remembered that Mao has sworn that he will not quit the DP presidency even when he has accepted to serve as a minister in Museveni’s government. (Read Story Here).
Meanwhile, Norbert Mao has said he trusts Museveni, and that the opposition are a threat to Uganda’s peaceful transition from Museveni to another leader. (Read Stories Here and There).
