Besigye’s Son Anselm Wins Master’s Scholarship at University of Chicago

Anselm Kizza-Besigye, son to opposition leader Dr Kizza Besigye, has been admitted to the University of Chicago to pursue a Master of Arts Program in the Social Sciences. 

In a March 10 letter addressed to Anselm, whose address is Geneva, Switzerland, University of Chicago also offered Besigye’s son a $40,000 research scholarship.

“Congratulations! On behalf of the Division of the Social Sciences, I am delighted to offer you admission to the University of Chicago for graduate study in the Master of Arts Program in the Social Sciences beginning in Autumn 2022,” wrote the university.

“Your offer of admission includes the Quadrangle Scholar Research Scholarship of $40,000.00 for 2022-2023.”

Anselm is expected to confirm his acceptance by April 20.

“This decision reflects the confidence of the Master of Arts Program in the Social Sciences (MAPSS) faculty in your accomplishments to-date and in your academic and professional promise,” reads the letter in part.

“Acceptance of this offer indicates your acceptance of all stated conditions and terms of the award. In keeping with the “Resolution Regarding Graduate Scholars, Fellows, Trainees, and Assistants” of the Council of Graduate Schools, of which the University of Chicago is a member, we ask that you inform us of your decision no later than April 20, 2022, via the online Reply to Offer of Admission form. A non-refundable enrollment deposit of $500 is required by April 20, 2022, which will be applied towards Autumn quarter tuition.”

Last year, Anselm graduated from Harvard University, winning a $5,000 prize. (Read Story Here).
