Anselm, son to opposition kingpin Dr Kizza Besigye, and Winnie Byanyima, has graduated from Harvard, winning himself $5,000 dollars for an excellent undergraduate thesis.
Anselm majored in Anthropology at the Faculty of Arts, and made it to the Harvard Class of 2021 that graduated virtually on May 28.
His thesis also made it to the 2021 Thomas Temple Hoopes Prize Winners for “excellent undergraduate work and excellence in the art of teaching.”
The Thomas Temple Hoopes Prize recognizes both the student and his/her supervising professor.
Besides Anselm’s $5,000 cash prize, his excellent thesis will remain available to students, academics and researchers accessing the Harvard library.
An excited Besigye praised his son for winning several scholarships, and wife Byanyima for playing a key parenting role.
“Anselm’s hard work also relieved us from most of the cost of his high school and university education because he was able to win scholarships that saw him go through the best education institutions,” wrote Besigye.
“I am grateful to his mum, Winnie, who took most of the responsibility of raising Anselm, as I was mainly entrapped in the ongoing liberation struggle of our country.”
The opposition politician also saluted family, friends and teachers that have helped Anselm on his education journey.
“I am also grateful to the many family members, relatives and friends, who played an important part in the journey of Anselm’s growth and education,” continued Besigye.
“Our family is grateful to the teachers, professors and all school and university staff of all the institutions he attended in Uganda, Ethiopia and the USA.”
As a parent, Besigye showered Anselm with blessings.
“Our prayer is that God will continue to bless and guide him in the new and critical phase of his life,” added the vocal politician.
