Besigye sends very clear message to Museveni ahead of Saturday Covid19 lockdown addresss

Opposition kingpin Dr Kizza Besigye has told President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni what he should do during his July 31 Covid19 lockdown address.

President Museveni will speak to the nation this Saturday as the 42 days of lockdown come to an end.

The president announced the lockdown on June 18 after a surge in the number of Covid19 cases and deaths.

Almost six weeks later, the cases have dropped down but the deaths are still high due to the adoption of home-based care.

Now, ahead of the weekend address, Besigye has reiterated his calls on Museveni to lift the lockdown and plan better or else wait to face defiant Ugandans.

Besigye says Museveni’s lack of a Covid19 management plan has bred speculation and confusion.

“As 42-day ‘lockdown’ grinds to an end, it’s total speculation in Uganda about what next!” said Dr Besigye

“Without an inclusive process that offers a known plan &targets, we’ve planned for costly confusion!”

The opposition leader also castigated Museveni for looking on as as “money is recklessly spent on a few at the expense of all.”

He has now urged government to consider a proposal he presented to the nation on July 13.

“At the family and local community level, prioritise the protection of the vulnerable: 60 years and above plus those with chronic ailments,” repeated the four-time presidential candidate.

“Isolate them until they’re immunised. Proactively demand for their immunisation.”

He once again told Museveni it was high time he put an end to the confusion orchestrated by the lockdown and the alleged lack of a crisis management plan.

He also rallied Ugandans to rise up and reject Museveni’s discriminatory lockdown if he doesn’t come up with a plan on Saturday.

“Critically, it’s time to end the discriminatory management of our society,” said Besigye.

“It’s time for the marginalised to raise their voices until they regain influence on decisions affecting them.”

He added: “Let’s consider imposing a lockdown on all till an inclusive plan for survival of all is made.”
