Opposition kingpin Dr Kizza Besigye says he is certain National Unity Platform (NUP) 2021 presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine won the election and President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni lost.
According to official Electoral Commission (EC) results, Museveni garnered 58 per cent of about 10 million votes cast while Bobi Wine managed 35 per cent.
Bobi Wine claimed he had won the election with 54 per cent.
Bobi Wine’s attempt to have Museveni’s election nullified fell flat after the singer-turned-politician withdrew his petition from the Supreme Court, the highest in the land.
Now, Besigye says he believes Bobi Wine beat Museveni but was cheated.
During Thursday night’s NTV on the Spot show, host Patrick Kamara asked Besigye, “do you hold the view that the Hon Robert Kyagulanyi won the 2021 election?”
“I actually believe he did,” replied Besigye.
The four-time presidential candidate’s frustration is that by keeping silent, the opposition would legitimize Museveni’s alleged electoral fraud.
“Legitimacy is what the majority of the people in the country desire. That is why I believe that President Museveni is totally illegitimate. Our pursuit, now, is to push him out,” said Besigye.
