Veteran opposition leader Dr Kizza Besigye has says the latest violent arrest of main opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) presidential candidate Patrick Oboi Amuriat is proof that the January 14 election is a military operation to keep incumbent Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni in power by all means.
Police in Mpigi violently arrested Amuriat on January 10.
Amuriat spent the night in police cells.
FDC said police had denied Amuriat access to his lawyers, and blocked those taking him food.
“We also don’t know how his health is after being violently arrested and beaten during arrest,” added the party in a statement.
Now, Besigye says the arrest, happening barely four days to polling day, discredits Uganda’s poll.
“It’s no longer correct to refer to Uganda’s 2021 general “election” as an election! It’s a military operation: “Keep Museveni in Power at all costs,” said Besigye.
He call on Ugandans to ‘defiantly’ vote on Thursday and work hard to “ensure that our vote counts!”
