Singer Moses Ssali aka Bebe Cool says he is concerned that fellow artiste Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine’s short political career has so far led to more deaths than veteran opposition leader Dr Kizza Besigye’s over two-decade activism.
Bobi Wine, the flag bearer of the National Unity Platform, is one of the 10 presidential candidates seeking to end Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni’s 34-year rule.
He is ranked alongside key opposition leaders like Patrick Oboi Amuriat of main opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) and Maj Gen (Rtd) Gregg Mugisha Muntu of Alliance for National Transformation (ANT).
The 2021 race will be the first in which Besigye, Museveni’s fiercest opponent, will not be on the ballot.
Bebe Cool has now observed that Bobi Wine’s political engagements have claimed more lives than Besigye’s.
Yet Bebe Cool believes Bobi Wine is still way behind Besigye’s political star.
“We have never lost so many youths in an election. It shocked me that for the over 20 year [Dr Kizza] Besigye opposed government, the number of deaths associated with his activities do not exceed 10,” Bebe Cool told Salt TV in Kiwatule in Kampala.
“But we have a young man responsible for over 65 dead bodies, most of them of youths who have left behind their families, youth who should be alive today, waiting for vote for Bobi Wine.”
Bebe Cool now wants his longtime music rival to start valuing people’s lives.
“We can’t keep quiet when we see someone’s plan aimed at causing bloodshed. This youngman hasn’t even reached a quarter of Dr Kizza Besigye’s level but why are we seeing dead bodies,” noted Bebe Cool.
“He should behave like a leader and start valuing the lives of the people, even in his processions. If they die, you won’t have people to lead.”
