Reports coming in claim that central bank governor Prof Emmanuel Tumusiime Mutebile has been rushed to the Kenyan capital Nairobi for treatment after his condition reportedly worsened at the weekend.
It is said that the Bank of Uganda (BoU) governor is currently admitted at the Aga Khan Hospital.
Aged 72, Governor Prof Mutebile is said to be battling diabetes and its related complications.
He was also said to be on dialysis in recent months, with doctors reportedly managing his condition at both Nakasero Hospital and at his Kololo-based home.
The longest serving BoU Governor, Mutebile has served at the central bank’s helm since 2001.
President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni handed him another five-year term in January 2021.
But in recent years, his health condition has affected his work.
The Pearl Times couldn’t independently verify the claims on the severity of Mutebile’s current condition.
Bank of Uganda was yet to break the silence on reports of his admission at Aga Khan Hospital.
