BAN LOADING! Bad News for Kampala City Vendors

With just days to the new year (2022), Kampala Resident City Commissioner (RCC) Hudu Hussein has announced that no vendor or hawker will be allowed on the streets of Uganda’s capital next month.

Addressing reporters at the Uganda Media Center in Kampala on December 23, Hudu gave vendors and hawkers up to January 10 to have vacated the streets.

There had been an earlier ultimatum which the hawkers and vendors failed to abide by.

The RCC said there would be no other extension.

Hudu insisted that there are enough stalls in markets such as Usafi and Wandegeya which have space that the vendors and hawkers can use to settle and do business.

He further explained that in the wake of terror attacks, it was urgent for vendors and hawkers to get off the streets so that terrorists do not exploit the way they disorganize the city to launch attacks.

KCCA hopes that ridding the streets of vendors, in their thousands, will make the city more organized and less chaotic.
