BALLOONED & ABANDONED: Over 30 Ugandan Teenage Girls in Tears after Sri Lankan Electricity Project Workers Impregnated Them Before Leaving the Country

A group of foreigners who have been working on a hydropower plant project have impregnated at least 31 teenage girls and left the country for Sri Lanka, local authorities have told The Pearl Times.

All the 31 teenage girls hail from Kyarumba Town Council in Kasese District. The electricity workers accused of impregnating them are said to have been working on the Kyarumba Hyro-Power Plant project.

The revelation was made by Ivan Bwambale Bibuwa, the Kyarumba Town Council LCIII Chairperson while speaking to our reporter.

Bwambale noted that after being impregnated, the girls were abandoned by their partners after the expiry of the contract and are now living helplessly without support from anyone.

He now the victims, now want support from government and non-governmental organizations.

Meanwhile, Bwambale’s Town Council leadership has organized the victims into a group named, ‘Kyarumba Young Mothers Thuwathikanaye Group’ so that they can be sensitized about the need to save for their welfare.

The Town Council Boss noted that he was happy that after making a serious mobilization for the group, the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Kasese, the Rt. Rev. Francis Acquirinus Kibira recently offered 20 piglets to the group members to help them achieve economic empowerment.

Bwambale has since called upon well-wishers to come on board and offer skills training to the victims so that they become self-reliant to support their livelihoods.

A section of the victims, whose names we have withheld, told this reporter that ever since they became pregnant, they were abandoned by their partners who went as far as blocking all known channels of communication.

These girls have also revealed that ballooned and abandoned, they were left with no option but to start begging from their parents and relatives.
