Badru Kiggundu death rumors: EC speaks out

Uganda’s Electoral Commission (EC) has spoken out on social media rumors that its former chairperson Eng Badru Kiggundu is dead.

The reports even made headlines in online tabloid news blogs.

But the EC has made it clear Kiggundu is not dead as alleged.

“Disregard this information, and treat it with contempt it deserves,” the commission clarified.

During his tenure as EC chairperson, Eng Kiggundu faced criticism from the political opposition for reportedly aiding election rigging in favour of incumbent President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni.

Museveni replaced Kiggundu with former prosecutor and judge Simon Mugenyi Byabakama after the 2016 election.
