Catholic Archbishop of Kampala Dr Cyprian Kizito Lwanga has rejected reports that the church planned to kill National Unity Platform (NUP) presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine through poisoning.
Archbishop Lwanga told Christians who converged at Rubaga Cathedral on December 25 that he was shocked to hear of such allegations.
The cleric revealed that those making these claims said the church was hatching a plot to put poison in Bobi Wine’s host during Holy Communion.
He further told congregants that the news of the alleged poisoning plot had spread as far as England.
“Someone called me from England claiming that religious leaders plan to kill Bobi Wine, and that they advised him to stop coming for the Eucharist because we were going to poison the host,” said Lwanga.
“Brothers and sisters, let’s stop joking on very serious national issues.”
The state has severally accused Bobi Wine and his NUP camp of making allegations they have failed to prove.
The singer-turned-politician nowadays campaigns in a bulletproof jacket. He claims the state is targeting his life.
