ANOTHER ONE! Hope as Gulu University Makes Covid19 Treatment Drug

Uganda’s Gulu University has reportedly found the drug that treats deadly viral respiratory disease Covid19.

The drug is expected to hit the market in coming weeks or months, depending on how fast medicines regulator National Drug Authority (NDA) approves it for emergency use.

The Gulu University Covid19 treatment drug comes weeks after NDA approved Covidex, made by Mbarara University of Science and Technology (Must) professor Patrick Ogwang, although the academic and the institution are embroiled in a battle for the product’s Intellectual Property (IP) rights. (See: Here’s the process Prof Patrick Ogwang will go through to secure Covidex Trademark as MUST insists he must back off Covid19 herbal drug).

The new drug from Gulu University, based in northern Uganda, is said to have been tried on over 100 patients with great success, according to state newspaper The New Vision.

The promising medicine could come as yet another way to a solution, in addition to Covidex, to Uganda’s current Covid19 second wave crisis.

The country’s Covid19 deaths recently crossed the 2,000 mark.

Projections from the Ministry of Health (MoH) indicated the infections could reach a peak towards the end of July 2021.
