Police in the Ugandan capital Kampala have arrested another Temilade Openyi alias Tems, her manager Muyiwa Awomiyi and three police officers, hours after the arrest of artiste Stanley Omah Didia aka Omah Lay over a December 12 concert at Ddungu Resort Munyonyo in Kampala.
The officers are: L/AIP Fabiano Juma, No.51328 PC John Bosco Ocaba and No.67898 PC Paul Odongo.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP) spokesperson Patrick Onyango, Juma, Ocaba and Odong “guarded the illegal event.”
“The arrested officers and three others still at large are also being investigated for disobeying lawful orders,” said Onyango.
Also arrested alongside artiste Tems, manager Awomiyu and the three police officers was event organizer Benjamin Kabura.
Earlier, police had arrested Omah Lay, events manager Prim Kasana and venue manager Ivan Ddungu.
In total, nine people have so far been arrested. They have been detained at Katwe Police Station.
Onyango said “their files are being processed so that they can appear in court.”
“All suspects are being held on offence of doing acts that are likely to cause the spread of infectious disease, which is Corona virus. It is also alleged that the suspects and others still at large held a concert in violation of the guidelines of the Ministry of Health,” explained the KMP publicist.
“It is alleged that the organizers of the concert first held lunch and dinner events, but later on at night they started inviting artistes to perform. Preliminary investigations indicate that they connived with area police officers, who guarded the illegal event.”
He further warned the ban on concerts still stands.
