ANOTHER DEAL! Museveni Exempts Foreign Investors Building Airport Inside Kidepo National Park from Paying Taxes

Museveni meeting foreign investors from UAE

Ugandan President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has given a green light to investors from UAE to construct an airport inside Kidepo Valley National Park. The president also offered the foreign capitalists tax exemptions.

Museveni made the announcement of the new deal with foreign investors on November 08 after meeting a delegation from Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry led by the chamber’s Board of Directors Chairman Abdallah Sultan Al Owais at State House Entebbe.

Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry was established by an Amiri decree issued in 1970 by His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah in order to effectively and vitally participate in the organisation of economic life and the prosperity of its trade, industry, agricultural, digital and the professions sectors on all levels and in cooperation with the concerned establishments and bodies and local departments.

Sharjah is the third-most populous city in the United Arab Emirates, after Dubai and Abu Dhabi. The Emirate forms part of the Dubai-Sharjah-Ajman metropolitan area.

Attending alongside President Museveni were his ministers: Attorney General Kiryowa Kiwanuka, State Minister for Works and Transport Fred Byamukama and State Minister for Foreign Affairs Henry Okello Oryem.

Investor Abdallah Sultan and his delegation of foreign capitalists briefed the President on the progress of the construction of the Airport in Kidepo Valley National Park. The foreign capitalists also informed the President that upon completion, the airport will have a 3,500 metre runway to accommodate aircrafts like Boeing B777.

After the brief, Museveni okayed the construction of the airport. However, Museveni advised the investors to be cautious about the safety of wildlife in the park.

“This airport is a welcome investment, especially for the service sector and tourism. I advised the group to be mindful of the safety of the wildlife in the park. I welcome them and wish them good luck,” the president said after the meeting.

As has become his habit when dealing with profit-seeking foreign capitalists, Museveni assured Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry that they will be exempted from tax as they construct the airport.

The head of state and government also pledged to woo members of the Uganda Hotel Owners Association to build Hotels in the area that will accommodate passengers who will be using the airport.

As we continue to report, foreign capitalists are descending on Uganda. Last week, government launched the digital number plates project which will be run by a controversial Russian company. The company will milk billions out of Ugandans. (See Details Here, There and There).

Museveni’s government has also allowed another foreign capitalist, a Dutch company, to become a monopoly of petroleum products supply in Uganda, causing worries that fuel prices, and subsequently all commodity prices, will rise. (Read Story Here).
