Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine’s National Unity Platform (NUP) has suffered yet another blow after the Kitgum District party registrar Emmanuel Onencan joined President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni’s ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM).
Onencan led other NUP Kitgum members in abandoning the party, and consequently declared their support for the NRM.
They included: Kitgum NUP party chief mobilizer Richard Onen; Lawrence Kidega, the NUP Coordinator for Central Ward Division in Kitgum and Chua West Division LC IV Councilor seat contestant Denis Mwaka.
The defectors accused Bobi Wine and NUP of sidelining them.
The now ex-NUP registrar had earlier met NRM Northern Uganda lead campaigner Bosco Odoch Olak in the city of Gulu.
He brandished the NUP stamp and register.
The party registered showed that Bobi Wine had 1,018 registered supporters in Kitgum.
This is not the first defection from NUP to NRM in recent weeks.
Just on December 22, a group of NUP youths stormed party offices for the Lango sub region in Lira, and burnt t-shirts before meeting NRM vice chairperson for northern Uganda Jacob Oulanyah.
Days earlier, Bosco Ocira Lawino, then Nwoya District NUP coordinator crossed to NRM, defecting with a register containing names of 11,000 members.
