Police in Kampala have confirmed the murder of a Kampala Capital City based lawyer as a wave of gun crime continues to shake the country. The lawyer was shot dead shortly after returning to his home.
The city’s police deputy spokesperson ASP Luke Owoyesigyire says that Kampala Metropolitan Police South (KMP South) and Kajjansi Police Division are actively investigating the murder which happened Monday, May 30, 2023 night.
The tragic incident took place at Kitiko Birongo, Ndejje Division, Makindye Sebagabo in Wakiso District.
ASP Owoyesigyire identified the assassinated city lawyer as Ronnie Mukasa. Aged 45, Counsel Mukasa has been working with IBC Advocates, a law firm located at Kampala City’s Namanda Plaza. Mukisa was a resident of Kitiko Birongo in Ndejje Division, Makindye Sebagabo, Wakiso District.
Owoyesigyire said that preliminary information received by police indicates that Mukisa would often return home late but on the fateful night, he arrived home and proceeded to park his vehicle at about 11pm (2300hrs).
He was shot as he moved to lock his gate. Neighbors reported hearing gunshots. Locals told police that the murderer withdrew shortly before moving to shoot Mukisa at close range.
That the shooter was working with a motorcyclist who quickly rushed him off the scene after he had finished killing the city lawyer.
“However, on the night of the incident, he arrived at the apartment parking lot at approximately 2300hrs. After parking his dark blue Subaru Legacy with registration number UBJ 006K, Mr. Mukisa proceeded to close the gate. It was during his return to the apartment that neighbors heard gunshots, prompting them to investigate the commotion,” noted Owoyesigyire.
“Statements from eye witnesses have indicated that, an unidentified individual was seen shooting at Mr. Mukisa before briefly withdrawing, only to return and shoot him at close range multiple times in the head. The assailant quickly fled the scene and escaped on a waiting motorcycle, the direction of which remains unknown.”
Efforts to trace the killer and his associates were futile. Police was only able to recover cartridges.
“Kajansi Police Station took immediate action upon receiving the report of the incident. A team was dispatched to the scene, followed by the introduction of canines to aid in the investigation. Despite their efforts, the scent was lost along the way. A thorough search of the area led to the recovery of four projectiles and cartridges. The body of Mr. Mukisa was subsequently retrieved and transported to the City Mortuary for postmortem examination,” the police publicist noted.
“Kajansi Police Station is currently conducting inquiries to gather further information and establish the motive behind this heinous crime. We assure the public that every effort is being made to apprehend the perpetrator(s) and bring them to justice. We urge anyone with relevant information regarding this incident to come forward and assist the police in their investigation.”
