Rt. Rev. Dr. Fred Sheldon Mwesigwa said the move is illogical and challenged his colleagues to rethink about it since the covid-19 is not only spread by political rallies but also church gatherings has contributed a lot to the spread of the pandemic.

Mwesigwa believes that once every body has followed the SOPs as given by the ministry of Health, Ugandans will overcome the pandemic with the help of God.

Bishop Mwesigwa who presided over Christmas service prayers at St.James Cathedral Mbarara on Friday, asked Ugandans not to be afraid of COVID 19 and have faith that they soon will defeat the pandemic that has caused havoc all over the world.

Mwesigwa criticised politicians who wear their masks but freely mix with the members of public who are always without masks “I have seen politicians putting on masks, their microphones getting sanitized every time and again but they are mixing freely with citizens who are very exposed to coronavirus with no masks, no social distance and dancing with them.”

He said Ugandans should stop being used as shields during campaigns and elections because the treatment of Covid-19 in the country is increasing.

National Resistance Movement (NRM) Dr Mwesigwa Rukaari supported Bishop Mwesigwa assertions saying the challenge is not campaigns or political rallies but rather carelessness of Ugandans and failure to adhere to the Ministry of Health Standard Operating Procedures.(SOPs).

“It is just the carelessness of some politicians who have not been mindful of the Covid-19 pandemic, they support mass gatherings, are not sensitizing these people on Covid-19 prevention and SOPs, what they mind about is passing out their campaign messages, “said Rukaari.
