The ruling NRM parliamentary caucus has chosen Bukedea Woman MP Anita Among as the party’s candidate for the 11th Parliament deputy speaker election.
Among garnered 168 votes votes ahead of Thomas Tayebwa (Ruhinda North) who polled 149 and Robinah Rwakoojo (Gomba West) who managed 10 votes.
Central Executive Committee (CEC), the party’s top organ, had sent the names of Among, Tayebwa and Rwakoojo to caucus for a vote.
Among will tussle it out with other candidates such as Yusuf Nsibambi of the FDC in the race to replace Jacob Oulanyah as deputy speaker.
Oulanyah is now the official speaker race candidate.
