Bukedea District Woman MP Anita Annet Among and Bugiri Municipality MP Asuman Basalirwa have been nominated as candidates to replace late speaker Jacob L’Okori Oulanyah.
The ruling NRM party endorsed Anita Among, the hitherto deputy speaker, to replace Oulanyah. (Read Story Here).
The opposition chose Basalirwa as their candidate. (Read Story Here).
Kakumiro Woman MP and Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja nominated Among.
“In Hon Anita Among, we have a leader who is tested. Her manner in handling Parliament is beyond reproach. It’s on record that Anita has presided over programs intended to help the poor,” said Nabbanja.
Nyendo-Mukungwe MP and Leader of Opposition in Parliament Mathias Mpuuga nominated Basalirwa.
“He is well versed with the Rules of Procedure, having served for many years in the Rules and Privileges Committee and Legal Committee,” Mpuuga said of Basalirwa.
