Protesters have ‘broken’ out in Bukedea District, the home of Anita Annet Among, the speaker of Uganda’s 11th Parliament, over her latest alleged assassination reports.
It all began on Thursday when Speaker Among, who doubles as the Bukedea District Woman Member of Parliament, told her colleagues in the House that she had received a report indicating that some people wanted to end her life and that they were trailing her vehicle.
Speaker Among did not reveal further details such as the people she thought wanted to end her life, according to the report she claims to have.
But assassinations are not uncommon in Uganda. Some of the people who were killed had complained that there was a plot to end their lives.
Now, some people claiming to be supporters and voters of Speaker Among have taken to the streets of Bukedea in the protest of what they called an attempt to assassinate the head of the legislative assembly.
From marching on the streets of Bukedea Town, the protesters moved to the headquarters of Kolir Sub County.
These supporters held placards, calling on President Museveni’s government to ‘save the speaker.’
Other placards read: “Security, where are you?’ Losing two speakers? No!”
