Andrew Ojok Wins Omoro County By-election to Replace Late Father Jacob Oulanyah

Omoro District Returning Officer Moses Kagona has on May 26 evening declared Andrew Ojok Oulanyah, son to former speaker Jacob L’Okori Oulanyah, as the duly elected MP for Omoro County.

A total of 17,454 ballots were cast in the Thursday election. Of these, 10 were declared spoilt. Up to 385 ballot papers were flagged invalid (rejected).

A total of 17,069 votes were declared valid, and shared by six candidates in the byelection.

According to the results announced by Kagona at about 09:40pm, Oscar Kizza of Mugisha Muntu’s Alliance for National Transformation (ANT) garnered 63 votes, the least number of votes in the election.

Independent candidate Jimmy Walter Onen managed 88 votes, becoming the second worst performing candidate after ANT’s Kizza.

Justine Odong of Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) got 529 votes while independent candidate Terrence Odonga had 532 votes.

National Unity Platform (NUP) candidate Simon Toolit Akecha was the second best candidate with 1,633 votes.

Ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) candidate Andrew Ojok Oulanyah got 14,224 votes, emerging the winner.

Ojok Oulanyah will now replace his father Jacob Oulanyah who died in March 2022. (Read Story Here).
