Andrew Mwenda: Museveni must be a witch

Journalist Andrew Mwenda has taunted Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine’s National Unity Platform (NUP), saying President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni must be a witch after his opponents failed to block his inauguration, and their gods were unable to disrupt the swearing-in ceremony with rain.

Museveni took oath as president for a sixth successive elective five-year term of office.

About 10 African heads of state and representatives of several other leaders attended the inauguration.

Locally, top Government and ruling NRM party leaders attended.

These included former prime minister Amama Mbabazi.

At 11:35am, Museveni took oath of office for a new term at the end of which he will have led Uganda for four decades.

The president’s opponents’ plan to block his inauguration, if at all it exists, was nipped in the bud.

Police had claimed Bobi Wine, who came second in the January 14 presidential election, had planned a parallel swearing-in ceremony in Iganga.

But NUP dismissed the plan as being used by security agencies to con the president.

The party said it would conduct fasting and prayers seeking God’s intervention.

After Museveni took oath of office, Andrew Mwenda mocked the gods of NUP for failing them, and suggested Museveni might be a witch.

“Bambi NUP! They had said they would block Museveni swearing in. They failed! Then they prayed to the gods for heavy rains to do for them what they had failed to do politically! It didn’t rain,” wrote Mwenda.

“Museveni must be a witch! How do we console our friends in this new party?”
