Amuriat to EC boss Byabakama: FDC will fight back if you disqualify me from presidential race

Main opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) presidential candidate Patrick Oboi Amuriat (POA) has warned his party will fight back if the Electoral Commission (EC) disqualifies him from the race for declining to appear before the elections body.

EC chairperson Justice Simon Mugenyi Byabakama had summoned Amuriat and his Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine of the National Unity Platform (NUP) to appear before the Commission on December 14.

But the duo were no show, prompting Byabakama to reschedule their meetings.

Consequently, Bobi Wine met the EC on December 15 while Amuriat is expected on December 16.

But ahead of the meeting, Amuriat told reporters he would only meet the EC on December 25.

He urged Byabakama and his team to meet him on his campaign trail, promising to spare one hour off his busy schedule.

He also suggested a Zoom meeting with EC officials.

The FDC president further threatened the party would act if the EC disqualified him over the meeting.

One of the options, he said on December 15, would be running to court.

“It is a question that could even lead to litigation. We could take the Electoral Commission to court over this matter,” Amuriat said.

“Disqualifying me is not just a simple thing: it is disqualifying an entire structure of a party and that party will react. I want to promise: the FDC will react.”
