Main opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) 2021 presidential candidate Patrick Oboi Amuriat (POA) has used his nomination speech to emphasize his party’s strategy to end incumbent Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni’s rule.
The EC nominated Amuriat after his dramatic arrest by police that saw the defiant FDC president cleared barefoot.
He went on to deliver his nomination speech with shoes on.
Amuriat told off those doubting his potential that his victory would surprise them.
He said Ugandans doubting that Museveni’s rule was a full blown dictatorship should consider his harassment by security forces as proof of how low the NRM has sunk.
“I came here a prisoner. I was kidnapped by security forces, brutalized, I wear a lot of bruises and I feel pain. Musevni now runs a full blown dictatorship,” he said.
Amuriat then sounded a warning to the EC to think twice before siding with the regime to divert the will of the people.
“If nothing happens, the election we are going into is not a normal election.”
He reminded Ugandans that change would not come on a silver platter.
“Change is not coming on silver platter. This is not a matter of only those in the political frontline but 90 per cent of Ugandans who continue to suffer,” he said.
His victory, he continued, would open doors for a lean cabinet as a way of cutting expenditure.
He then reiterated that if Museveni is declared winner of next year’s presidential election, the FDC would “rally the population” to overwhelm the regime and dislodge it through Dr Kizza Besigye’s Plan B.
