Amama Mbabazi Speaks on Jacob Oulanyah Sickness

Former Prime Minister John Patrick Amama Mbabazi has expressed gratitude to God for the health of speaker of Parliament Jacob L’Okori Oulanyah.

Oulanyah returned to Uganda recently after weeks of speculation on his health condition.

It was not clear what the Omoro County MP was suffering from.

When he returned to Parliament, the speaker visited offices, including that of the chief whip, Thomas Tayebwa, and leader of opposition Mathias Mpuuga.

And on August 08, Anglican Church of Uganda Archbishop Dr Stephen Kazimba hosted Oulanyah and ex-premier Amama Mbabazi during a televised service at Namirembe Cathedral.

Mbabazi is the fundraising chairman for the committee tasked with clearing the Church House debt.

In his remarks, Mbabazi told Archbishop Kazimba that Oulanyah had stayed away from his parliamentary job due to sickness.

“Your Grace, the Archbishop, you know he [Jacob Oulanyah] has not been presiding over Parliament because he has been feeling unwell,” said Mbabazi.

“And so, I want to thank God for sending him here today in full health.”

He then turned to Oulanyah and said: “I congratulate you for recovering, and I look forward to your taking up the job.”

While Oulanyah was away, deputy speaker Anita Annet Among and parliament’s director of communication and public affairs Chris Obore said the speaker and his deputy were taking turns chairing the House.

Oulanyah was expected to start chairing plenary in August.
