Afghan Refugees in Entebbe land Ugandan Journalist into Trouble

Ugandan journalist Henry Wasswa Lumanyika is in trouble with Ugandan authorities over Afghan refugees being hosted in the country.

The refugees jetted into the small impoverished East African nation this week.

Days before the evacuees arrived in the country, Betty Amongi, the gender, labour and social development minister had warned members of the Stingy Men’s Association of Uganda (Smau) off beautiful Afghan women.

Reports also indicated that government had warned against taking photos of the Afghan women.

Now, Human Rights Network for Journalists (HRNJ) has confirmed the arrest of Henry Wasswa Lumanyika, a news correspondent with Deutsche Press Agentur.

Wasswa Lumanyika is said to have been arrested at Imperial Resort Beach Hotel Entebbe.

Uganda is hosting the evacuees from Afghanistan at the Imperial Resort Beach Hotel Entebbe.

Reports indicate that Wasswa Lumanyika was arrested on August 26.

HRNJ noted that Wasswa was still under detention at Entebbe Police Station.
