There are many factors involved in climate change and their interrelationship is complex but by far the most important factor is changes in the behaviour of the sun, about which nothing can be done. An increase in the amount of electro-magnetic radiation emitted from the sun means more cloud cover on Earth and cooler weather. A decrease means less cloud cover and warmer weather. Changes in the Earth’s distance from the sun caused by alterations in the Earth’s orbit around the sun, also affect the climate, as do minute changes in the angle of the Earth’s axis and tiny changes in the Earth’s wobble.
Furthermore the warming effect is cyclical: in Minoan times the average temperature was very much hotter than it is now, in Roman times it was much hotter, (the wharves in Pompeii are far higher than the current sea level), and in the Middle Ages it was hotter. The average temperature during the warm periods is slowly decreasing. Added to which, the next Ice Age is expected to begin between 2030 and 2040: it is said to be around 1000 years overdue.
CO2 is a rare gas that comprises about 0.04% of the atmosphere. It is also essential to life and if there were much less of it, all life on Earth would be extinguished. The more there is of it the more plants thrive. It is beneficial and not a pollutant. About 97% of it arises from natural sources. In three days a volcano can produce as much CO2 as humans do in a century. There are hundreds of submarine volcanoes, many of them active and emitting vast quantities of CO2 day and night, year after year. There are of course other but fewer volcanoes on dry land. The oceans themselves emit CO2 as do rain forests. Humans emit a derisory and vanishingly small 3%.
A little publicised fact is that the average temperature rises BEFORE any rise in the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere. Thus the effect comes before what is maintained to be the cause by climate fanatics.
The only noxious effects associated with CO2 emissions are due to particles emitted together with the gas. The exhaust emissions from cars can be efficiently dealt with by catalyzers. The emissions from modern coal burning and oil burning power stations have the particles filtered out of them. Gas burning power stations emit virtually pure, beneficial CO2.
The amount of CO2 in the atmosphere is now at about the lowest it has ever been in any geological era. Wind turbines use about as much energy to be produced and installed as they produce in their lifetimes. They contain deadly poisonous components and last for around 20 years. No one knows where to dispose of them after their life is over as the poison must filter down to the water table wherever they are discarded. Solar panels last for about 25 years and also contain deadly poisonous components and no one knows where to throw them away either. Neither the wind nor the sunshine can be depended upon to go on uninterruptedly without intervals of inaction.
We need more gas and oil therefore. We in Britain are standing on virtually unlimited free supplies of both which could be easily released by fracking but which Green Activists are preventing governments from tapping. Fracking produces earth tremors so tiny as to be undetectable and has been going on unhindered in the USA for quite a while. We are at the mercy of deranged activists.
Methane does have a measurable effect on the climate but is mostly emitted from deep fissures in the Earth’s crust about which nothing can be done. Animal flatulence has a role to play but expecting the world’s population to give up eating meat and drinking milk is like expecting to win the Lottery.
A warmer climate would bring about many benefits. Immense tracts of land would be opened up for cultivation in Northern Canada and Russia and sub-tropical crops could be reaped in Northern Europe. (The Romans had vineyards as far north as York 2000 years ago). The cost of heating buildings in Russia, Europe and North America would diminish dramatically. The North-West passage between the Atlantic and the Pacific would be open all year round. Tropical fish would be available in European and American waters.
I conclude by stating that global warming not only has nothing whatsoever to do with human activity but that it would also be a very beneficial occurrence if it really increased more dramatically than it has up until now .I would add that CO2, far from being a pollutant, is an essential and extremely beneficial gas which is in dangerously short supply
Professor Dr.Richard Lindzen, Professor Emeritus of the Middle Atmosphere in the MIT, is also a member of the IPCC and has videos available on YouTube stating quite clearly that the climate change scare is bogus. The IPCC has deliberately issued fraudulent results in order to try to make the facts fit its false climate change theory. It is the official UN body responsible for providing scientific climate change information to the UN, a task it has proved singularly unfit to perform. At the moment any scientist who fails to go along with the official, but false, theory of the cause of climate change is unable to get university employment or university tenure and, if employed, is dismissed. No article providing an alternative explanation for the causes of climate change or criticising the current official theory, will be allowed publication by any of the prestigious scientific magazines. This is a new Inquisition and a denial of freedom of speech. The science is said to be settled, but no science is ever settled. All theories are discarded if a better theory comes along.
